Order Weights

We are proud to offer removable weighted tails! After several requests throughout the years, we started to make a prototype. We are proud to say we have come up with a very successful weighted tail that will hold up to our expectations! Please be sure to read everything below so you are fully informed on our weights and the procedure to order them. If you have any questions, please contact us!

Why would I be interested in weights?

Do you have a horse that holds their tail out while performing or do you have a horse that constantly swishes their tail? Is having your horses tail "fixed" out of the question? Then a weighted tail might work for you! While some horses do not respond to the added weight of an extension, most horses will respond to having a weighted tail on either by putting it down flat against their butt or holding it still. All horses will vary so they may not work for all horses but more often than not, the weight will work.

Why not just get a horse tail extension with more hair in it?

A two pound tail is a lot of hair to care for and when you do not have a lot of time to spare, a two pound tail can become too much to handle. If you have a horse with a thin tail, a two pound tail may not look natural in the horse's tail. In this case you can use one pound of hair and add weights to get to the desired weight.

What weights are offered?

We are currently selling all weights in 1 and 2 pounds. When you purchase weights, you are purchasing a full one pound or a full two pounds, but each can be broke down in half pound increments. In the two pound weights, there are actually four 1/2 pound weights put together and each can separate which means you can have any weight in between 1/2 pound and 2 pounds. In the full pound weights, there are two half pound weights, allowing you to use either a half pound or a full pound. I am sorry but at this time we do not sell weights in any other increments.

We do NOT recommend putting any more than 2 pounds of weights on each extension. Each extension is equipped to handle two pounds of weight and no more. If you do put more than two pounds of weight in the extension, we cannot guarantee the tail will handle the weight and strings may break. It is unlikely that the top will come apart but since each tail is made to meet breed associations "hair on hair" standards, the strings can only support so much weight. Please keep in mind that when your horse is moving, there will be more stress put on the tail so just because your tail can hold up with the extra weight while standing, it may not be able to once the horse starts to move.

What attachment style is best for weighted tails?

The loop is by far the best extension. Even if you order a tail with just strings, if you select "yes" under Equip for Weights your tail will come with the double loop. The double loop is the most secure method to attach a weighted tail and the only one that is recommended.

How do the weights attach to the tail?

Each weight attaches using a screw in method, meaning that no weight will come loose, break or fall out.

Is there an extra charge for the weighted tails?

Yes, besides paying an extra amount for the desired weight, you will also need to have the tail properly set up for weights. To do this you will need to select "Yes" under Equip for Weights. This is an additional $5. This includes the extra support (glue and thicker, stronger loops) as well as the screw to attach the weights to the tail.

I have already purchased a tail from you, can I just order the weights to attach to the tail?

No. Unless you have a tail that is equipped for weights, you will not be able to attach the weights. If you selected "yes" when you ordered the tail and there is already a screw in the tail to attach weights to, you will be able to purchase just the weights.

Can I send the tail back that I already purchased from you to have it equipped for weights?

At this time, no. All tails are specially set up to hold the weights from the time it is made. If it is not properly set up, it will not be able to hold the weight.

Why can't I order a 1/2 pound tail and have it equipped for weights?

At this time a 1/2 pound tail is unable to support the full two pounds of weight. It can hold an additional 1 pound of weight so if you do want to order a 1/2 pound tail with one pound of weight, please contact me. It can be put through as a custom order.

How do I order a weighted tail?

You will first want to order the color tail you need, in the weight and length you would like it. Then hit add to cart for that tail. Please be sure to select "yes" under Equip for Weights to the tail you would like to add weights to. After ordering the tail, go to the "Weighted Tail" page and select "Order Weights". Once you have decided what amount of weight you would like to add to your tail, click "add to cart" under the selected weight. You should be able to see both the tail you ordered and the amount of weights you ordered. Then finish the purchase and your tail will be started right away!

Can I purchase one set of weights and use them in two separate tails?

Yes! As long as both tails were purchased from me and the tail was set up for weights, then the weights can be used in ANY tail!
